There are different kinds of raised floor pedestals for different environment usage. In highly seismic locations, or some applications with high floor heights and heavy loading, seismic pedestal / heavy duty pedestal with bracing systems are highly recommend.
Seismic pedestal / heavy duty pedestal
Compare to normal pedestals, heavy duty pedestals have thicker steel, bigger size and higher tube, which brings better load capacity and stability. In the following applications, seismic pedestal systems are very necessary.
When the concentrated load of panel is over 500 kgs, it is best to use heavy duty panel to make the floor system stable and safe. In the heavy load area, such as the tool moving path, the heavy machine area, it is necessary to use heavy duty panel to keep the whole system under protective and make the system in long performance.
2.High floor height
When the floor finish height is over 600 mm, it is important to change the normal pedestal to heavy duty type.
Zinc galvanizing could be the most widely used painting ways on pedestals. As the galvanizing pond has a depth limit, when heavy duty pedestal exceed pond’s depth, it can not be galvanized completely. Therefore, powder epoxy can make the pedestal in good appearance. It is with black powder coating with thicker tube and larger base steel sheet.
Some places are prone to earthquake, heavy duty panel is stable in such circumstance. Along with shaky ground, heavy duty panel system will be steady as the whole system is in heavy loading and best quality.
Below could be the standards and spec options of seismic pedestals.
The diameter of the pedestal tube is 32 mm, 38 mm, 42 mm, 48 mm, 58 mm, etc.
The size & thickness of pedestal bottom plate 125*125*3.0 mm, 150*150*4.0 mm, 200*200*4.0 mm/5.0 mm, etc.
The height of our pedestals can be from 600 mm-2500 mm.

Pedestals offer vertical bearing capacity, and stringers offer horizontal bearing capacity. When pedestals reach a certain height, only pedestals and stringers cannot guarantee the stability of under-structure system. We need to install bracing systems to enforce the stability of whole systems.
There are 2 parts of bracing system, bracing itself and bracing clamp. Bracing clamps are fixed on pedestals, each clamp has 4 connectors toward 4 directions. Clamp has different size to fit different pedestals’ tube, such as 32 mm, 38 mm, 48 mm, etc. Bracings connect pedestals through the connectors of bracings.
Bracing connection ways
There are two ways to install bracings. one is the connections between pedestals, the other is the connections between pedestals and the ground.
In actual applications, the connections between pedestals could be more widely used. If every pedestal installs bracing, then the quantity of bracings(connect pedestals to pedestals) is equal to stringers, which is around 5.2-5.4 pieces per square meters.
On the other hand, the quantity of bracings (connect pedestals to ground) would be more, every pedestals demand 4 bracings, so total quantity could be 13-14 pieces per square meter.
Considering project budget factor, the actual installation does not install bracings for every pedestals. It is more common to install bracings every other row.
